Located within the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau natural region with 910 acres of forest and five miles of streamside and lake shoreline. The park's centerpiece is Burney Falls

Approximately 60 miles east of Redding near the junction of State Route 299 & 89.

One of six wetlands refuges in the Sacramento area that offer seasonal birding opportunities. Drive your car on the loop tour or hike on the 2 mile gravel path.

The very first wilderness trail in the country with wheelchair accessibility is found in the Gold Country. Features - The main entrance to the Trail is on Highway 49, near the South Yuba River bridge. Highlighting the West Trail is a waterfall one mile from the entrance. People and wheelchairs travel a switchback ramp from Flume 28 (520 feet long) to the swirling waters of Rush Creek. Also featured on the west side is an overlook of the Yuba, surrounded by canyon flora. The East Trail features more views of the river and foothill landscapes, with a total of two and a half miles of maintained trail. There are picnic areas, outhouses, a camping area and scenic vistas all around. This site has not been inspected yet but we know it's worth listing.

Disabled Discount Pass to State Parks

This discount pass entitles certifiably disabled persons to a 50% discount for use of all basic facilities at any unit of the California State Park System. Cost of the pass is $3.00 and you must submit an application. You must be a U.S. citizen. This can be obtained by writing to the Department of Parks and Recreation, Disabled Discount Pass, PO Box 942896, Sacramento, CA 94296-0001 or ask for an application at the entrance to any state park.

Located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, this 500 acre park contains some of the few remaining old growth redwood trees. There is a visitor center and gift shop as well as hiking trails.

Hours and Fees

Open daily 8am-Sunset Fees: $2.00 Ages 17 and older Midweek mornings are the best times to visit.

Directions

Follow U.S. 101 north across the Golden Gate Bridge. Take the Hwy 1 exit in Mill Valley and follow it until you see the sign for Muir Woods. The road to the park is winding and steep. Vehicles over 35 feet are prohibited.

There is no signage directing you to the ramp to the gift shop because it does not meet code. Wheelchairs are avvailable at the visitor's center. With enough advance notice ASL interpreters may be available for guided walks.

Trail Information

There is a mile long (one way) paved trail with several bridges to cross over to make a loop. If you stay on the trail till it ends do not take bridge 4, return on the same path and cut over at bridge 3. The trail is not accessible between bridge 4 and 3.

Taylor Creek Rainbow Trail

Self guided nature trail alonside Taylor Creek. Watch the yearly Kokanee Salmon run in the beginning of October when thousands of fish turn brilliant red. You can get eye level with the stream at the Stream Profile Chamber situated along the trail.

Trail Information

Trail in sections exceeds 1:12 slope. Powerchairs and Parapalegics should have no problems. Lake of the sky trail just beyond the visitors center is a wide dirt path that takes you to the lake is not designated as accessible but may be useable to power chairs and strong paras.
