Independence TrailNevada City 530.265.9398 Information The very first wilderness trail in the country with wheelchair accessibility is found in the Gold Country. Features - The main entrance to the Trail is on Highway 49, near the South Yuba River bridge. Highlighting the West Trail is a waterfall one mile from the entrance. People and wheelchairs travel a switchback ramp from Flume 28 (520 feet long) to the swirling waters of Rush Creek. Also featured on the west side is an overlook of the Yuba, surrounded by canyon flora. The East Trail features more views of the river and foothill landscapes, with a total of two and a half miles of maintained trail. There are picnic areas, outhouses, a camping area and scenic vistas all around. This site has not been inspected yet but we know it's worth listing. Accessible Features

Cost of the pass is $3.00 and you must submit an application. You must be a U.S. citizen. Muir WoodsMuir Woods National Monument 415.388.2595 Information Located 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, this 500 acre park contains some of the few remaining old growth redwood trees. There is a visitor center and gift shop as well as hiking trails. Hours and FeesOpen daily 8am-Sunset Fees: $2.00 Ages 17 and older Midweek mornings are the best times to visit. DirectionsFollow U.S. 101 north across the Golden Gate Bridge. Take the Hwy 1 exit in Mill Valley and follow it until you see the sign for Muir Woods. The road to the park is winding and steep. There is no signage directing you to the ramp to the gift shop because it does not meet code. Wheelchairs are avvailable at the visitor's center. With enough advance notice ASL interpreters may be available for guided walks. Trail InformationThere is a mile long (one way) paved trail with several bridges to cross over to make a loop.
